The price of DAP in Pakistan this week has increased by about US$40/ton from the last sale price in July to US$655/ton CFR, mainly because a major importer is buying the transaction price of Chinese DAP. The price increase reflects the strong market conditions in the east of Suez and the further narrowing of the East-West spread that dominates the mainstream phosphate market trade this year. Australia’s sale of DAP to Pakistan also highlights the shift in regional dynamics, where Australian products were previously sold to the United States. The price of MAP in Brazil is now only US$100/ton higher than the mid-end CFR level of Pakistan’s DAP, which is about US$155/ton lower than the highest point in mid-July. The price of MAP in Brazil has further developed downward due to the off-season market demand.
The eastern market is strong and the western market is weak
The market price of phosphate will continue to narrow the price difference between eastern DAP and western MAP. The purchasing season in Latin America is coming to an end, and India and Pakistan still need to prepare more DAP for the upcoming rabi season.
